Feedback from exclusive at the Lake House
Morning Heather,
I just wanted to thank you and your staff for the most wonderful weekend at the Lake House; the house was really perfect for an intimate party, very comfortable and warmly welcoming, with lovely facilities such as the pool and spa, and all in such a beautiful setting.
The food was truly delicious and beautifully presented and served.
And most of all you, Julian and the rest of the staff were excellent in looking after our every need so thanks to everyone for making it a really memorable stay and we really hope to see you again very soon.
Hoping you had a lovely celebration with your husband,
With warmest wishes,
[Well done to all at the Lake House]
Dear Owners and Staff at The Gilpin
Just a short email to thank you all for a wonderful stay at your hotel this week, Tuesday and Wednesday nights. As you know I bid for the stay at the CAFT ladies lunch in June and I am aware that although I paid a fair price for the stay you were donating the prize free of charge. However you upgraded us to a Garden Suite which we loved and we made full use of the hot tub after a long walk.
We thought the staff were all very friendly and formal without being stuffy, the food was heavenly and the icing on the cake was listening to a guest playing the piano in the bar on Wednesday evening after dinner. We also thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Lake House when we went for our treatments. We are regular visitors to the Lake District but we have now found our new favourite place to stay. Thank you very much. We will definitely make a return visit.
An update on the Spa I’d like to share with you. Having now had treatments from both Kate and Carina, and worked closely with Katie I’m now not surprised at all at the brilliant feedback we get from guests.
Next week we’ll be doing training which will be filmed so that the wider hotel can get an insight into what we’re doing at the Jetty Spa 🙂

Hi Gordon
Delighted to hear from you on our return to rainy Wallingford on Thames

70th Birthday Celebration Lunch
On behalf of our party for the above lunch yesterday, can I thank you all at the Gilpin Lodge for looking after us so well. We all had a wonderful meal and you were all so attentive, which it made it all more special. A special thanks to the chef for accommodating our wishes.
Many thanks. Anne Maguire.
Hope you are well,
Just wanted to drop you a quick line to thank you for making our day absolutely fantastic. I don’t think it could have gone any better than it had.
I have to say the success of the day is testament to your staff and yourself.
Prior to coming to Six Star Cruises I was in the ultra luxury hospitality industry for over 20 years having worked for Cliveden PLC, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises and I have to say you, your guys and the hotel is superior in every single way. We always said you can have a great cruise ship or hotel but if you don’t have the staff then you have nothing, Gilpin has EVERYTHING!!!!!
Thank you, your fantastic team and the beautiful hotel for making our day so successful!!!!!!!
Thanks again and wishing all the staff at the Gilpin a wonderful Friday and weekend.
Paul Goodenough (Six Star Cruise Lunch)
Another great night, thanks to all concerned

[Guest Compliment]
Good Morning
I hope you are all well.
My husband and I wanted to thank you all for your wonderful hospitality whilst staying at the Lake House. From the welcome at the front door, the welcome on returning from the lodge after dinner, to breakfast service and even the waiting staff serving drinks at the hot tub, you all did an amazing job at making us feel completely at home. The wonderful ladies at the spa did a super job we both keep thinking back to our wonderful stay
and both agree within 3 hours at the lake house you feel as relaxed as day 3 on an abroad vacation.
We have told all our friends and some friends of ours have booked to stay already.
We are planning on booking for my 40th birthday next year in Harriett Suite and we will be in touch very soon with a date.
Many thanks to you all for making us feel like family.
Angela and Craig Alderson
Following on from tonights briefing a short test on the current cheese board can be found in the Restaurant section on GA. All F&B staff to complete.
In terms of cheese mis en plac at the beginning of the night this will now be undertaken by Laurentiu and Andrew on Laurentiu’s day off.
All excess cheese at the end of the night to be placed in an air tight tub and placed in the cold room for Kitchen use on bouche/canapes etc where applicable.
In terms of serving the cheese its important that we are passionate, fluent and knowledgable about what we are serving. Reading scrap bits of paper on the tray is not acceptable at the level at which we operate.
Thanks for your cooperation. Let’s nail this new knowledge and service standard together.

Guest Feedback by email! Well done everyone.
Just a short email to say thank you for an amazing stay at Gilpin Hotel, our room was fantastic.
Just wish now we had seen Gilpin before booking a different hotel in Windermere which we had to leave after our first night, it was not at all what we expected.
Spoilt the first night of my birthday treat but once we arrived at Gilpin it was just the best night ever.
We will definitely be back and hopefully would be able to stay in Troutbeck Suite again it was pretty special, Ive took loads of pictures to show to everyone it was just totally perfect.
Thank you
Susan Minchella
Housekeeping Update!
Just a quick note regarding the mid year room review I undertook this morning with Sarah, Duncan, and Jo. Would just like to congratulate the housekeeping team on superlative standards of cleanliness throughout the bedrooms and bathrooms. Glassware and chrome surfaces were superbly polished, all rooms were
dust free and freshly aired, whilst vacuuming and overall presentation was first class.
Keep up the excellent work!
Gordon 🙂

Dear everyone at Gilpin and the lake house
I apologise for not writing before to thank you all for such a fantastic party for Ben and Rachel’s wedding last weekend. Having been in the hotel business for many years, all my family are well aware of how much effort is required to “pull off” such a do with the professionalism and style which you managed to achieve.
I would love to mention by name the people that I saw in “action” but I think that would be wrong as I am also aware of how many unsung heroes were in the background. At the end of the day , as with everything we do, it is the teamwork that counts.
This shone through and the result was stunning.
The guests were family and friends of both families, people who had come from the length and breadth of the country, even the world, the praise was universal.
And so is the thanks from Ben and Rachel, Barney and Zoe, Christine and I
It was not only a very happy occasion for us but one that made us very proud of Gilpin and it’s people
With very best wishes from us all
John

Treatment Invitation!
To all staff at the Gilpin,
The Jetty Spa team invites you to come for a treatment of choice when you have spare time. Contact me for a time to come down.
Experiencing the spa’s atmosphere and experience will really help sales for guests!
Well done Jess, for offering yet another memorable experience for a guest… so much so the guest was thinking of Jess from the Gilpin while on a trip in the Cotswolds!
See below note…
“Hello Jessica,
We want to tank you for the terrific climbs, hikes, you sent us on. It really made our trip special. The Cats Bells and the tougher one the first time. Pretty awesome climbs especially along that old rock wall. Long, but great fun.
Thanking you again for such guidance.
We are now hiking in the Cotswolds. Fun, a bit easier, but fun.
Take care and thanks again.”
Darlene and Gerhard lynch-Meng”

As most of you will know our ‘do not disturb’ Gilpin Cats have proven to be very popular! Laura and Kate out of the reception team therefore decided it was time to take our Gilpin cats on adventures around the Lake District.
Kate started off by taking Felix up the Pike O’Blisco at the top of the Langdale Valley and took some fabulous photos and then Laura took Fat Cat to visit our llamas!
See the following link for this great shot! https://thegilpin.co.uk/gilpinlife/adventures-of-the-gilpin-cats/
Many of our guests purchase a Gilpin Cat on their departure, but they are also available to buy on our website.

Awesome creativity brewing in the Front Office team… keep going Ladies! :o)
…and sometimes even our smallest guests can take a moment to surprise & delight us… see the little bunch of flowers Kate received from Mr Izza’s daughter (7 years old) who stayed over Easter 2014… hand picked just for Kate to say thank you for being a lovely Receptionist and treating her as an individual. Well done Kate! :o)
Picture to follow… system blip… 😉
Well done Ela, you got a great email response re lunch on Saturday they said the waitress was great, thanks and keep up the good work
Just like to thank everybody for all your hard work over the Easter period, it has gone really well, so well done everybody
Sarah

Congratulations to all the team that covered the hotel whilst the senior team were off jet setting ! I thought Artur and Laurenzo stepped up to the mark and took responsibility. Thank you Juan Isa and Ela for sharing your experience with the new team members and supporting them and well done newbies for keeping your concentration, learning and absorbing the pressure, despite a few awkward guests. Well done and thank you everyone.
Thankyou to Gilpin for allowing Dom and and myself to go and dine at Mugaritz it was amazing, food fantastic and service flawless, and I ate 20 courses!!
Saying goodbye to Angela. As we celebrate Angela’s incredible professionalism and etiquette we must also reflect on honouring the legacy of all that have contributed to the success of Gilpin and the impeccable standards of service and hospitality and service. Angela embodied the standards expected at Gilpin and we will miss her delicate and detailed approach that impressed us all. We wish Angela all the best for the future and hope that she can rejoin us in the future. Thank you Angela.
Just to congratulate the team on Saturday night. The ‘flooded’ orange room provided a serious test of our skills and professionalism and I was incredibly proud in the manner in which we responded to this challenge. So a big well done to everyone!
Just a note to say can all staff please make sure they fill in the forms for staff food.
The cut off time for morning is 11am and 5pm for dinner.
This is so the kitchen can cook meals accordingly and thus reduce wastage.
Thanks for your co-operation guys.
Dom
Congratulations on Isa becoming the first employee of the month in 2014. I think we all agree that not only is Isa a really popular member of staff but this popularity is based on how well she does her job. Isa’s attention to detail, organisation, efficiency and friendliness inspires us all. A big well done from your colleagues and management. Well deserved.
Just a warm welcome to 6 new staff in the last few weeks.
Raul joins us from Spain as an intern recommended to us from Relais and will be with us for 5 months.
Dario (Italian) joins us from the Low Wood and has been a welcome and enthusiastic addition to the Restaurant Team.
Hannah has joined us on a part time basis, her first job in hospitality with hopefully a great career ahead!
Jenny joins us on the first of April as a part time waitress in the restaurant. Jenny is local and also works part time for Lakes Lovers Holiday Cottage holidays.
Ryan and Neal have bolstered the kitchen team and have slotted in really quickly. Both bring energy and enthusiasm to the current menus and shift patterns. Ryan boasts Michelin star experience whilst Neal joins us from the award winning Carriage Works in Liverpool.
Three further additions later in April include Andrew Roberston who joins us as a Duty Manager, Marius (Laurentiu’s brother from Storrs Hall), and Maya a waitress coming over from Romania.
It’s been very heartening to see how well the new staff have slotted in to the Gilpin vision! Long may this continue.
That old Chestnut – The Restaurant Table Plan.
After extreme difficulties experienced on Wednesday’s dinner service reception have been briefed on new initiatives to ensure that we don’t get the 36 diners in an hour we struggled with. In future all receptionists will be adding their initials and date to the booking and where possible inviting (with appeal) guests to enjoy designated tables in the restaurants at times more suited to the delivery of the world class service and culinary standards we seek to achieve at Gilpin. Though the choice of dining times remains solely the choice of the guest we do hope to avoid congestion moving forward without any impact on the guest whatsoever. Well done Anna for coming up with an imaginative solution 🙂
Loving the new home page! 🙂
Our new team accommodation is totally stunning. It’s what our staff deserve!
